One of the great things Xebia has to offer is the opportunity to always be learning.
So, just before closing 2023, I started with my New Year’s resolution: learn dbt—at least the basics.
I’m glad to report that I got my dbt Learn Fundamentals credential.
The on-demand material from dbt Labs is excellent, I listened gladly to my pal Kyle Coapman (and many of his colleagues), and just before closing my laptop before the Christmas break, I got the Badge™!
On-demand learning is not for everyone, though. If you prefer to learn directly from practitioners in a class with other students, we got you covered! Our next dbt Learn class runs in March! Use code dbt10 to get 10% off!
One of my most popular LinkedIn posts expressed my surprise when 3-4 years ago I was shown a waiting list to enter the RDW website (the Dutch instance responsible for issuing driving licenses, among other things).
We had sent people on the moon more than 50 years ago, but couldn’t create a website to handle a registration system?
Or were programmers out there trying to make fun of digitalization, by replicating the feeling of a real-world waiting list from the comfort of your sofa?
Today, I’m even more surprised that this is still a thing!!!
I am in a waiting list to enter my energy meter readings, on a website, in 2024!?!
Well, I have good news!

Andrew Palmer hits it out of the ballpark again in the latest issue of The Economist
“Here are some handy rules of thumb. Anyone who calls themselves a thought leader is to be avoided. A man who does not wear socks cannot be trusted. And a company that holds an employee-appreciation day does not appreciate its employees.”
